About This Course
Course Description
Exposure to blood or other infectious materials can put you at risk of contracting serious, potentially deadly diseases. This course will teach you about bloodborne pathogens, the risks they pose, and the steps you should take to protect yourself after potential exposure. Please note that this course does not cover universal precautions; you will need additional training, vaccinations, and personal protective equipment (PPE) for providing first aid or handling/cleaning up bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials. This course is ideal for all workers.
Course Objectives
- Know what bloodborne pathogens (BBPs) are.
- Recognize symptoms and treatments for hepatitis B, hepatitis C and the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
- Identify how BBPs are transmitted.
- Remember to assume that all blood and other potentially infectious materials (OPIM) are contaminated.
- Recall emergency procedures to follow after a potential exposure to BBPs.
