Course Description
Working with electricity can be hazardous, with between 300 and 500 electrocutions resulting in fatalities each year in the U.S. To handle electricity safely, it’s crucial to understand how it behaves, how to control it, and the associated risks. Workers servicing or maintaining machinery may be at risk of injury from unexpected startups or the release of stored electrical energy. Failing to lock out machinery before performing maintenance is a leading cause of injuries and deaths. Implementing a robust lockout/tagout program can help prevent these incidents. This training will cover electrical hazards, safe practices for working with electricity, and the importance of a lockout/tagout program in saving lives.
Course Objectives

- Explain how electric shock occurs.
- Recall safe practices for working with and around electricity.
- Explain the purpose of lockout/tagout.
- List different forms of hazardous energy
- Identify who should use lockout/tagout and when it should be used.
- Describe the three elements of an energy control program.
- Recognize the types of lockout/tagout devices.
- List the steps for attaching and removing locks and tags.
- Discuss periodic inspections of lockout/tagout procedures.
- Understand the training recommendations for lockout/tagout.
